"April showers bring May flowers"
I wasn't sure what to call this project since it isn't the typical "wreath", but I'm going to go with the umbrella wreath anyway. You might recall that my mom is cleaning out her house and decided to send me several large boxes full of my stuff she no longer wanted laying around. In one of the boxes, I came across this paper umbrella. I LOVE this umbrella and always have. I have no idea about the who, what, where, why, how's of this umbrella – I just know I remember having it since I was young and have always loved it. I could never get rid of it despite the huge rip down the side.
When I took it out of the box, I knew I still couldn't get rid of it. In order to keep it and avoid hearing the hubby say I was a packrat I figured I better put it to use. Somewhere in this crazy brain I had remembered seeing the picture below which became my inspiration.
I taped up the rip on the inside, tied some ribbon from the handle and started filling it with flowers. I love fresh tulips, but I like to "keep it real" and flowers simply don't survive in my house. So fake ones they are. I originally was going to hang it on the front door, but I loved it too much. I wanted to see it more often than just when I enter the house. Instead of outside, I added it to our makeshift coat rack from an old door (that's another post) where my kids hang their book bag after school. Here are more pics…
You never know what hidden treasures you can find in some of your "old junk". Some things are just worth holding on to for that right 'ah-ha' moment! I'm not sure my hubby would agree with me…..he could think of a million other things to do with our "crap closet", but he loves me so the closet remains full of my hidden treasures J.
Be inspired, get creative, and have fun!
