Day 8 of 92 Crafty Days of Summer: Wine Cork Magnets

"Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy."

There are so many wine cork project ideas out there, but I bet few are as quick as this one! The wine cork magnet is fast, inexpensive, and useful. I literally grabbed the wine cork from my drawer and was done in less than 5 minutes. All you need is a hot glue gun, wine cork, and a magnet. I used an extra strong circle magnet and just glued it to the back. Voila! Another way to remember those special moments and friends

So far I'm doing okay on this project a day thing and it is definitely keeping me motivated on those nights where I just want to sit on the couch and veg. However, I better pick up the speed because I need to get ahead of the game to make up for my week of vacation at the end of July. We'll worry about that later though ;).

Day 7 of 92 Crafty Days of Summer: Magnet Bookmarks

Reading seems to be the unplanned theme this week for projects. Yesterday's quote inspired me to make some new magnet bookmarks for almost everybody in the family. I didn't want to leave everyone out, but the 1 year old wasn't quite ready for the magnet bookmark considering everything still goes to the mouth first.

The black and white damask magnet bookmark is for me. I keep waiting to see if I my obsession with black and white damask will phase out – but it hasn't.

The hubby gets a bookmark with his alma mater, Washington State University. He already has some magnet bookmarks with pictures of the fam, but he seems to be shuffling a few books right now so I thought one more bookmark wouldn't hurt.

The little big man gets some scrapbook paper that looks and feels like a football. I added the magnets and now he can keep track in his chapter books.

The magnets on the inside of the page keep it in place. I use business card magnets that are sticky on one side. I cut the magnet to size and then place one on each inside so that it stays put when your toddler terror decides to throw your book around. Day 6 of 92 Crafty Days of Summer : Dr Seuss Printable

I must admit that Day 6 of the 92 Crafty Days of Challenge did present my first true challenge of trying to accomplish a project. We were just having too much fun and barely spent any time in the house. But I didn't want to lose my personal challenge on Day 6, yet I wasn't going to sacrifice family fun to cross off a "To-Do" list item. I could still do this! I just had to be realistic and make sure none of the projects included Mod Podge or any tedious tasks. The solution? Create a quick printable to go near our reading area with a quote from the beloved Dr. Seuss. I love the below inspirational quote from Dr. Seuss and wanted to make sure my kiddos learned it as well. The printable reads…

"The more that you read, the more things that you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go" – Dr. Seuss

Day 5 of 92 Crafty Days of Summer: Poster + Foam Board = New Wall Art

After my little big man watched the Shuttle Endeavor launch in May, he has been infatuated with everything to do with space. He had a blast (no pun intended) at the Kennedy Space Center and his Nana sent us a 20 x 30 poster size of the photo taken of him in a space suit. It came rolled up in the mail so we needed to frame it or something. Well, a $2.50 foam board + some spray adhesive did the job. I took the foam board outside, sprayed it with the spray adhesive, placed the poster on it and then used a ruler to smooth out any bubbles. Now it is time to hang it up and check off project number 5 of my 92 Crafty Days of Summer.

Getting a picture blown up to a poster size is extremely affordable now (usually less than $10) so it would be easy to change up some art work in the house and not feel guilty. Or if you needed some picture decorations for a party you could use the poster glued to foam board without breaking the bank.

Day 4 of 92 Crafty Days of Summer: Eric Carle Inspired Art

This Eric Carle Inspired Seahorse was not originally on my "To-Do" list, but when we brought home "Mister Seahorse" from the library I fell in love with the cover. It was so bright and beautiful and it just made me want to race to the beach. Well, we are not racing to the beach any time soon so we decided to make our own beach at home. So here it is – project number 4 of the 92 Crafty Days of Summer. The kids will love making this tissue paper wall art just as much as you J.

MATERIALS:

Tissue paper
Tracing Paper
Canvas
Paint
Paint Brush
Mod Podge
Sponge brush
Pencil
Scissors

HOW-TO:

1. If you are like me and not blessed with any drawing ability, then use the tracing paper to trace the shape/picture you would like. Cut it out. Place on canvas and draw around it so you have an outline of your shape.
   
   
2. If you want any background paint on your canvas do it now. I painted little "waves" like the cover of the book. Let it dry.
3. Cut various colors of tissue paper into little squares, half circles, rectangles – whatever you feel like. I just folded mine and cut snips off.

   
   
   

4. With the sponge brush, brush Mod Podge onto a small part of the shape. Start applying tissue paper where you want. Brush Mod Podge on top. Let Dry
5. Touch up where you may need to.
6. Go put it somewhere pretty and dream of the ocean J

Day 3 of 92 Crafty Days of Summer: “We Are Blessed” Chevron Print

"We are Blessed"

I'm only human and sometimes when I'm in the middle of a self-pity party I need a little reminder of just how blessed we are. It's that simple – "We are Blessed". Even if I'm changing the 15^th poopy diaper of the day (ok – I like to exaggerate) it's still a blessing. Yes – poopy diapers are a blessing. Poopy diapers mean the following….

1. I have a baby
2. My baby is eating
3. Someone created diapers so we don't have sh*t everywhere.

It's Day 2 and I've stuck to the 92 Crafty Days of Summer Challenge. I wish I could have been lazy today, but if my 5 year old catches me trying to steal a lazy moment here or there I'd regret it! Luckily, this challenge kept me going and in 90 days or so maybe I can be lazy. I've had this tin can for a while now holding all our pencils and pens. It was so blah…it was a plain soup can after all just proudly serving its purpose, but not so pretty to look at. We have a box full of letter and number stickers so we started sticking away. Then I added a coat of Mod Podge to make sure they stay put. That's it…Project #2 Typography Soup Can Pencil Holder is crossed off the list. Nothing difficult or "oh my gosh" about it, but it counts  :)!

Day 1 of 92 Crafty Days of Summer: $10-$15 Framed Chalkboard

Today is Day 1 of my 92 Craft Days of Summer Challenge. This is mostly to keep me on my toes and to knock off something from my project to-do list every day this summer. I'm hoping it inspired you to do the same.

Since this challenge seems a little daunting I'm probably going to need some inspiration to stay on track and this framed chalkboard is going to be perfect. My new favorite section of Michaels is back by the custom framing. They have a "SOLD AS IS" section of frames and for whatever reason they didn't work out in their custom work. It doesn't matter the size of the frame…they are all $8. Bingo! I snagged an $8 frame, $2 foam board, and got to work. I sprayed the foam board with some chalkboard spray paint and then placed it in the open frame. I held it in place in the back with duct tape (don't laugh).

I hung it up right before you go down the stairs to our front door for that last moment of inspiration before we start our day. Maybe I should use itto write a reminder to take the old broom pan and Amazon box down to the garbage…can you tell I didn't stage the picture?
